Robert Montgomery was considered to be the best-dressed, most intelligent, and most versatile actor at MGM Studios. However, having been typecast in roles of largely one-dimensional, devil-may-care playboys early in his career, MGM stifled his abilities to this end, leaving others to observe sadly that Montgomery’s talents were “utterly wasted” and that he was, in a dismal addition to his other ‘best of’ qualities, the “most unimaginatively cast” actor at MGM.
